Recognizing Excellence in the Field of Aging

Mental Health and Aging Network (MHAN) Award

Call for Nominations
Deadline for Submissions: October 27, 2010

PURPOSE

The Mental Health and Aging Network (MHAN) of the American Society on Aging (ASA), is pleased to announce its Mental Health and Aging Awards recognizing outstanding programs and services in mental health and aging.

The winner will be honored during the Mental Health and Aging Network Program as part of the 2011 Aging in America Conference, to be held in San Francisco, CA from April 26-30, 2011.

ELIGIBILITY

Nominees must be members of the American Society on Aging. A nominee who is not currently an ASA member may join at www.asaging.org/join.

Nominations may be made by ASA members and staff or by other professionals in the fields of mental health and dementia care.

The nominee must be aware that an award nomination is being made on her or his behalf, and the nominee must have agreed to provider her or his resume or CV.

CRITERIA

Nominees will be judged on the basis of:

  • Significant contributions or exemplary service to the mental health of older adults including dementia care either through mental health services, research, education, policy planning, or advocacy.
  • Inclusion of diverse or underserved populations in the recognized contribution or service.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in meeting the mental health/ dementia care needs of older adults with potential for continuation or replication of programs, service, education, advocacy or policy planning.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

All nominations must be submitted online.

MATERIALS TO SUBMIT
  1. Completed nomination form with the following attachments (attachments must be Microsoft Word document files):
  2. Cover letter summarizing the work and accomplishments of the nominee in the mental health and aging/dementia field, and outlining how the nominee meets the criteria for the award (1000-word maximum length).
  3. The nominee's resume or CV.
  4. Two letters of support from other mental health professionals indicating how the applicant meets the award criteria.
